Clos Du Gravillas is a small production organic domaine of 1,800 cases a year, located in Southern France. The quality shows the individual care of the owners producing wines of elegance as opposed to power.

John Bojanowski grew up between Hikes Point and Jeffersontown, went to Waggener and graduated from Louisville Central HS (in 1984).  John was a waiter at Bristol Bar & Grille on Bardstown Road for a couple of months in 1986.  John’s mother Ingrid and sister Tina still live in Louisville. He’s been in France since 1990– originally for 5 years working in Paris when he met Nicole, who was already in wine and already decided to make her own.  Their first vintage was 1999, so it’s been 13 years of grapes and wine.

We are best known for making elegant wines out of old, forgotten, traditional grape varietals–especially Carignan, which we consider the backbone of Languedoc wines (and also important in Priorat and California). We’ve now got 15 varietals on 22 acres, all worked organically by Nicole and myself (and a few seasonal workers).  Our biggest press in the USA have been articles in Saveur (on Carignan) and Louisville Food and Dining (written by Scott), but we are just getting started.  In France, we are considered one of the best up and coming domaines of the new wave in Languedoc — with critical acclaim (top 100 reds, top 7 whites, best vins de pays) from the French wine press.  In France and England we have been listed by several Michelin starred restaurants, including at least 3 Gordon Ramsay restos in London and Pierre Gagniere in Paris. We are even sold in Harrods wine department. Anything is possible for a boy from Kentucky who’s willing to get his hands dirty!
